A friend recently asked me where to shop online for yummy yarns.

Oh my!

I gave her a few suggestions to get her started. And now, I'm appealing to the collective shopping expertise of this group. Where do you shop for great buys on beautiful, irresistable yarns for knitting? Come on - share your secret sites so we can all browse & drool together!

Susan's Spinning Bunny (not just fiber, yarn too!)

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of many right now... :)

Webs

Wide range of yarn companies and yarns, good discounts.

Patternworks has a weekly sale online.

I also like Elann, Schoolhouse Press, and that cashmere guy in the UK called colourmart. I don't have links right now because I'm on a remote computer, but googling should get you the right sites.

Knitpicks of course! They've got some great dye-your-own, and the Essential line of sock yarn is soft and lovely to knit. Their laceweight is nice and reasonably priced. And their Options needles are fabulous!

For yummy yarns, there's nothing like a good LYS. I'm too much into the tactile-ness of being able to touch the yarn before I buy it.

However, once I've "previewed" a yarn in person, then I can find it online...

Laura, thanks for talking about knitting!

I'm with Nicole the bookwyrm, I need to touch the stuff so I go to the LYS.

I also like Knitpicks -- I've been very happy with everything I've gotten from them.

I've also purchased yarn from the Lion Brand web site -- right now I'm knitting a sleeveless shell with Lion Microspun. It's a bit splitty, but is very soft and has a nice sheen.

And don't forget eBay! I've gotten great yarn from eBay.
