I Love This Pattern!

I'm in love.

No, not with Mr. Sweater Model over there. I'm in love with the Knitting Pure & Simple pattern.

Yes, it's the same one I screwed up a few days ago when I forgot to place the first stitch marker but I'm over my trauma and zipping along. With a little luck I'll be pulling off the sleeve stitches and stowing them on waste yarn today and beginning the long trek down the body of the sweater toward the hem.

This is truly a fabulous way to knit. It's top down which means circs which means no purling which means sheer delight. Now I don't hate purling but I'd rather limit my exposure. It's fascinating to see the way the kf&b increases on either side of the markers form a fake seam that also serves as a very cool design element. I'm using my Denises (sizes 9 and 6) and if you're familiar with them, you know how light and flexible they are and how easy on the hands and arms. (Especially since I'm knitting with a fairly hefty yarn -- Elann's Peruvian Highland Chunky.)

This is one of those addictive projects that I may have to ask Goldisox to store behind lock and key when I should be working. I find myself grabbing every spare second I can to try to squeeze in just one more round.

Thanks be to Elizabeth Zimmerman: my knitting mojo's back!

How do you like knitting with the Elann yarn, I have often thought about buying it but haven't so far. I like to touch first. I love the Knitting Pure and Simple patterns also. I just finished one for my daughter.

I'm crazy about the Elann yarn, Monica. It's incredibly soft and even with my raging wool allergy (eased, I'll admit, by antihistamines)I'm not seeing many ill effects. It spit-splices wonderfully, has exceptional stitch definition, isn't splitty at all. Dallas warmed me that the softness we love has a downside: it may not have the durability of a tougher (scratchier?) yarn, but I'm willing to make that trade-off. Send me your snailmail address offline and I'll send you a sample of the Elann Chunky Peruvian. wickedsplitty@earthlink.net

I've been trying to find a sweater pattern to knit for my dad, and I think this may be it. How would you say the difficulty is on this (I've never knit an adult sweater before)? They yarn looks lovely and soooo warm!

Hey Sharon - I will if you will! I did make one once - about a hundred years ago - for the DH. Did I mention he's not a sweater guy?

Anyway, there's a pattern in the January Creative Knit mag that I think would be great for one of my DIL's.

I'd rate the difficulty level as Very Easy to Easy. If you can knit, purl, kf&b, use circs and dpns, and pick up stitches, you've got it made. No seams! No matching lengths! No endless purling back. I slipped the sleeve stitches onto scrap yarn last night and began knitting the body and it's really moving along. I'm delighted!

Hi Jamie, you're on! Since I started knitting two years ago, my dad is constantly teasing me about when I'm going to knit him a sweater. It's definitely time.

Yarn suggestions, anyone?
