Flap-A-Doodle-Do!

I've finally finished my first flap purse. It's made from leftover yarns from, oh, a couple dozen projects. Now I've decided not to felt it because I like it just the way it is.

Do you ever do that - start a project with one idea in mind and then change your mind once it's finished?

  2. Oh, Amber ... Scotland! Where in Scotland - if my asking isn't too bold. One of my goals is to go to Scotland and Ireland.

My mother was a McKenzie. Her father was born in Nova Scotia and her paternal grandparents in Scotland. And my father was a McCoy - pretty much the same story for his family, paternal and maternal grandparents born in Ireland.

    What a world, hey?

  5. Noro Kureyon, Fran? Wow! What a fabulous job. I'm curious about the edging. It almost looks felted but I'm thinking not. How exactly did you handle the finishing? It's a masterly job! (And also just plain gorgeous.)

  6. I worked on this purse, off and on, for about three months, and it's sort of a make-it-up-as-you-go pattern. When I got done knitting (and knitting, and knitting), I had a long, square piece (the purse) and a long, narrow piece (the handle). I'd knit the handle really tight, so that may be why it looks felted in the photo. But it's not.

Anyway, I put it all away because I was sick of it. Then recently I pulled it out and decided to finish and felt it. Because I do a lousy job sewing by hand (which is why I love the three-needle bind-off), I sewed the pieces together on my niece's sewing machine. I decided I liked it so much, I wouldn't felt it after all.

One thing it needs is a lining. I've got some bright orange that I think I'll use. Don't you just hate the dark interior of purses? What are those manufacturers thinking?
